Frequently Asked Questions

Let’s make the process feel simple.
Whether you’re building a new pool or updating an existing one, or overhauling your backyard, it’s normal to wonder how it all works. What comes first? How long does it take? What decisions matter most?
We’ve put together this FAQ to give you straightforward answers and a clearer picture of what it’s like to work with Calvery Pools, from the first conversation to the final walkthrough.
How long until you’re swimming?
In most cases, you can expect to be swimming in about 6 to 8 weeks from the start of construction. That said, every backyard and every project is a little different, so the exact timeline can vary based on your design, materials, weather, and scheduling.
What we can promise is this: we’ll keep the process organized, communicate clearly, and make sure you always know what’s happening next. From day one, our goal is to move your project forward efficiently without ever cutting corners.

Saltwater Pool vs. Chlorine Pool: Which is Better?
This is one of the most common questions we get, and the honest answer is: both can be great options. Saltwater pools and traditional chlorine pools are both sanitized using chlorine, but the way that chlorine is produced and managed is different.
A saltwater system uses a salt cell to convert salt into chlorine as the pool runs. Many homeowners like saltwater because it tends to feel gentler on skin and eyes, and it can create a smoother swimming experience.
Things to consider:
-
The system requires an up-front investment (salt system + salt cell)
-
Salt cells need maintenance and eventually replacement
-
Salt can be harder on certain materials over time if the pool isn’t properly maintained
-
A traditional chlorine pool uses chlorine added manually or through an automatic feeder. It’s a reliable, proven system that’s easy to service and maintain.
Things to consider:
-
Chlorine levels still need to be monitored regularly
-
Some people are more sensitive to chlorine (especially with heavier use or if levels get out of balance)
-
If you want a more “set it and forget it” feel and love the softer water experience, saltwater may be a great fit. If you prefer a simpler system with straightforward maintenance and lower equipment costs up front, traditional chlorine is often the way to go.
Either way, we’ll help you choose the option that makes the most sense for your pool, your backyard, and how you plan to use it.
Will Building a Pool Affect my Irrigation System?
Yes, it usually does, and it’s completely normal. In the North Texas area, most yards already have sprinkler lines running through the exact space where the pool, decking, and outdoor features will go. That means irrigation often needs to be adjusted as part of the project.
The good news is: it’s a standard part of building a pool, and we plan for it early. Depending on your layout, we may need to reroute sprinkler lines, move zones, adjust sprinkler heads, or redesign coverage so your landscaping stays healthy around the new pool and hardscaping.
-
Texas heat and drought cycles
-
watering restrictions
-
the need for efficient coverage around new decking and outdoor living areas
Our goal is to make sure your backyard looks finished, functions properly, and stays easy to maintain long after construction is complete. Irrigation is something we’re pros in, so you’re in good hands.

Is Artificial Turf a Good Landscaping Option in North Texas?
For many homeowners in the Dallas and Ellis County areas, yes, artificial turf can be a great landscaping option, especially if you want a clean, low-maintenance yard that stays green year-round.
-
patchy grass from shade or high foot traffic
-
muddy spots after rain
-
the ongoing watering, mowing, and upkeep that comes with natural lawn
That said, there are a few important things to consider:
-
In the Texas sun, turf can get warm during peak summer afternoons. If this is a concern, we can help you plan for shade, choose turf options designed to stay cooler, and place it strategically in areas where it makes the most sense.
Proper drainage is key. A quality turf installation starts with the right base preparation so water drains correctly and the surface stays smooth and stable.
Not all turf is created equal. The right product and installation make a big difference in how natural it looks, how it feels underfoot, and how well it holds up over time.
If you’re considering turf as part of your outdoor space, we can help you decide whether it fits your goals and how to design it so it looks intentional, polished, and built to last.
I have a small back or side yard. Can you design a pool that fits?
Yes, absolutely. Some of our favorite projects are the ones where space is limited, because that’s where smart design makes the biggest difference.
At Calvery Pools, we specialize in plunge pools and interactive small-yard pools that are designed to fit your space while still delivering the experience you’re dreaming of. Even in a smaller backyard or side yard, we can often create a layout that includes the features that matter most, like:
-
tanning ledges
-
benches and built-in seating
-
water features
-
spa-style upgrades
-
clean, functional decking for lounging and entertaining
The key is designing intentionally around how you want to use the space. We’ll help you explore options, maximize every square foot, and create a backyard that feels open, comfortable, and completely your own.

Is Financing Available for Pools and Outdoor Living Projects?
Yes. Many homeowners choose to finance their pool and backyard project, and there are more options available today than most people realize.
We work with trusted financing partners who can help with everything from pool construction to complete outdoor living projects, including features like outdoor kitchens, decking, lighting, landscaping, and more. If you already have a lender you prefer, you’re welcome to use your own financing as well.
Either way, we’re happy to walk you through the process and help you understand your options so you can move forward with confidence and a plan that fits your goals.
